Chance® Helical Anchors are capable of supporting load in both tension and compression. This allows almost unlimited applications where helical anchors can be used to provide economically beneficial solutions. Within Structural Anchor Supply's and Chance's® websites you will find a multitude of ways that helical anchors can be utilized to solve specific load support situations.
In compression load applications helical anchors are commonly used to prevent or correct settlement for new and existing structures with poor soil conditions (soil conditions not suitable for structural support). Other applications include boardwalks, crane and equipment pads, utilities, and communications towers.
In tension load applications, such as buoyancy or lateral pressure (horizontal movement), helical anchors are used in earth retention systems such as retaining walls by installing them as tiebacks or soil nails. Other applications include guy wire supports for utilities and as buoyancy compensators for pipelines.

The Helical Pile is a deep foundation element used to support a load through bearing of
the helix plate upon the underlying soil. Typical installation equipment includes, skid
steer loaders, mini-excavators or normal-sized excavators depending upon the desired load
capacity and access conditions.
The three components of a Helical Pile are as follows:
The lead section which develops the load capacity through the helical plates bearing on the
underlying competent bearing stratum.
One or more helical extensions with additional helix plate(s) may be added to provide and
develop additional load capacity.
Extension section(s) without helix plates are added as required to screw the lead section
down to the proper soil stratum and to develop the required installation torque which
corresponds to the proper ultimate bearing capacity.
Pile Caps (for new construction) or underpinning brackets (for remedial repair) are the
terminations that connect the Helical Pile to the structure and transfer the load through
the shafts of the pile to the competent soil stratum.
