Chance® Helical Pile

Versatile steel screw anchors manufactured by the A.B. Chance® Company provide solutions to many structural foundation and earth retention problems. A helical anchor/pile is a segmented deep foundation system with helical bearing plates welded to a central steel shaft.

Applications for the Chance® Civil Construction Foundation System include (but not limited to) new construction piles, foundation underpinning, retaining wall tiebacks, micro-piles, environmental walkway supports, lighting foundations, earth retention applications, up-lift restraint, foundation retrofit, soil stabilization, and seismic foundation upgrades.

Chance® helical products are sold and installed only by contractors trained by Chance® and authorized to recommend and provide appropriate solutions to a wide range of soil problems.

Chance® Square Shaft (SS) Helical Anchors were originally developed for high-torque tieback applications, which provide lateral support to high vertical retention systems. These anchors are offered in 1 1/4", 1 3/8", 1 1/2", 1 3/4" and 2" and 2 1/4" round-cornered square shaft anchors. The steel used for this product ranges from 50 to 80 ksi steel. The ultimate compressive capacity limit of these piles will range from 40 kip to 200 kip based on torque ratings. Typically, SS lead sections and extensions are hot dip galvanized per ASTM A153, which simply means, they have an average 2.0 oz/ft2 (3.0 mils) weight of zinc coating.

Chance® Round Shaft (RS) Helical Anchors were developed for high-torque guying requirements and later applied as foundation anchors for utility substations, transmission towers, and pipe support. RS anchors are offered in 2 7/8", 3 1/2 ", and 4 1/2 " diameter pipe made from 50 ksi steel material. The wall sizes vary from 0.165 through 0.337 inch achieving a higher mechanical strength rating with respect to the amount of steel used. The compressive capacity limit of these piles will range from 36 kip to 138 kip based on torque ratings.
